The Devereaux Legacy
Meet Delilah Mae Devereaux. She had grown up the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Devereax, owners of a large hotel chain. Her childhood was rich both financially and emotionally. Nobody could have seen her ending up anywhere other than the next wealthy, happy person in line for the family business. Unfortunately, sometimes the unthinkable happens. When Delilah was 17 years old her parents were killed in a horrible accident. It was very tragic and left Delilah lost and alone. As if that wasn't enough, her parents had never gotten around to the paperwork and the family business (more like empire) was auctioned off to greedy businessmen. Delilah had no family and had to live in a group home until she was 18 and could be sent off on her own. When that time came, she decided that her town had too many bad memories now. She set off to find a better place to live. Eventually, she ended up in a town called Red Cliffs.
Delilah had a little bit of money that she was given to help with her "grieving period". She used that money to purchase what was probably the smallest house in the entire town. It had one main room, a bathroom, and a bedroom. She had just enough left over to get her the basic furniture, and even an old computer from the pawn shop. Fitting to her situation, it was raining when she arrived.
Instead of moping around, Delilah had gotten the mindset that she needed to get moving. She wanted to start over and make a successful life for herself. Where should she start? One thing she needed was a job. But what? After pondering for awhile, Delilah thought she might pursue a career in the journalism career. She was a good writer, it was a passion actually. So, she hopped on the crappy old desktop (which had a floppy disk drive, how lame) and found an opening at the local news station. It was crappy hours, crappy pay, but a start!
Next, she thought she should get acquainted with the town a little. She had remembered to sign up for the newspaper when she got here, so she started there. She scanned the ads to get a feel of what stores were around, read articles about the school and other events, and finally checked out the hotspots section. She thought it might be a good idea to go out that night. She wasn't super social, but she didn't want to be alone.
She also tacked cooking her first meal by herself. Waffles, something easy. She managed to not burn anything and didn't even make a mess.
After awhile she decided to brave the town. She started with the park and consignment shop across the street. In the shop she immediately struck up a conversation with the owner, Valarie Grant. It was a strange conversation, Delilah kept talking about the weather at the same time as Valarie's interests in Delilah. Quite odd. Anyways, the hit it off quite well!
At the park, she met a fellow named Anthony March. After an awkward introduction (Anthony has a stalker it appears), they talked about each other for a minute.
But, Delilah got a phone call from work. Anthony did NOT appreciate that, and that was the end of that conversation. They probably won't be BFFs.
That night, Delilah went out as decided earlier. However, when she reached the small bar down the street, she was given quite a scare. She was met by this woman, who appeared to have just been beat up! The woman grunted frequently and kept staring at Delilah like she was a hamburger.
Delilah was about to say hello (she's brave like that, okay) when the girl dove into the ground and disappeared! What the holy heck! Delilah had a small panic attack and immediately called a cab to go to a new destination. She would be googling this bar when she got home.
She asked the cab to take her to the nearest hotspot. Luckily, the cab driver got this request a lot and she was whisked off to a trendy club. It was called Liquidity and was actually more of a spa/pool/dance floor type thing. It was not, however a hotspot. Nobody was there! She decided to stay anyways because they had let her in for free for some promo that she immediately forgot the name of. She wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise.
She walked around for awhile and then spotted a section that had these gorgeous rock hot tubs. She wanted in. Yeah, she had her bathing suit in her pocket or something. She bounced up to the door, which was surrounded by red ropes. She had indeed had a rich lifestyle growing up, but it was in the country and she had never seen something like this before. She asked the woman guarding it if she need a pass and was told yes. She asked how to get one, and the woman just gave her a once over and said "Come back when you are famous." Delilah was furious and left immediately.
She found her way down to the beach by the club. Still steaming from her treatment at the club, she picked up some rocks and flung them into the sea. It was nice to finally live near the sea, and she felt relaxed right away.
As she stood in the incoming tide her mind wandered back to writing. She didn't have money. She had no friends, not even a pet! And she had no idea what to do with her life. But she could always write. And that's what she was gonna do.
The next morning was her first day at work! She hopped out of bed, made a delicious breakfast, and was sure it was gonna be a great day! And then, she broke the toilet. Awesome.
Despite that morning's incident, she headed off to work in high spirits. She met her co-workers and even worked a little late to get some extra experience. And it paid off. She came home with a promotion! She was now a grammar editor (or something, she never remembers official titles)! Her hopes were growing, and she knew this was the right place to be.
